In order to gain a sense of reason behind the complex idea of life, our society gravitates towards man made concepts that are today divided amongst various religions. But what if the answers lie inside ourselves? As humans we all possess an almost mystical power known as consciousness, a power that seemingly holds infinite potential. Growing up, I began to dismiss the structured ideas contained inside four walls, thinking that without concrete evidence, how could a so called God exist. Is there really a lack of evidence of a supreme unknown power though? Over the past year my mindset changed drastically as I began diving deep into the uncharted depths of the human consciousness and the infinite possibilities of the grand universe, both incredibly unknown, yet scarily accepted as just existing. When you draw into account the numerous amounts of life forms on this planet and how they are all connected in someway, it becomes hard to ignore that something is hiding in plain sight. Whether it be through an underground network of interconnected plant life, or the simple idea idea of animals living off of each other and the lush land, to even the solid fact that trees literally provide the oxygen that keeps us alive and we reciprocate this back through the exhalation of CO2, the relations on this single tiny planet provide for endless thoughts on not only why processes work this way, but also the existence of a universe that is over 99.99% unexplored beauty. While I can’t except the man made creations of religion, how could I or anyone for that matter have the extreme authority and status to simply rule out the existence of some sort of power that contains all connections between life, consciousness, and the vastly unexplored universe.
This whole concept can be seen throughout my works of art, especially my 2-D pieces, in the way that I explore ideas of enlightenment, the restraints on freeing the consciousness, the possibilities of otherworldly life, and the space before birth, after death, and the decades that lie in between called life. I see my photography as more of an exploration of concepts such as emotions, portraits focusing on the individual’s mind rather than the body, the relationship between the mind and the body, untold dark histories, and overall presenting images that possess scenes that tell a story and allow the viewer to question what they are viewing.
My goal is always to be pushing myself and other’s to think more abstractly. From digital photography, to film photography, drawing, painting, ceramics, jewelry, graphic design, and hopefully textiles and sculpture next, I have versatility in being able to use whatever I have at my disposal to its full potential. The conceptual ideas of my mind that I present through my art and the vast range that I am able to present these ideas is what I believe makes me an artistically strong individual.
